BMW f650gs Dakar - Photo Gallery
A wonderful "little" dual-sport machine, single-cylinder, long-legged suspension, and it is quite a change from a 130hp 1100cc inline four!

Ummm, this is a joke. Right?! The Dakar as I found it in Dallas. Thanks, Greg!!! Can I get home from here?! The night before leaving Dallas...let's get ready to ride. I believe we're somewhere in Louisiana... The Birmingham airport, Sept. 25, 2003. Fly to Dallas to pick up the new bike! Airport security...this smiling jaybird relieved me of a Craftsman wrench to adjust the axle, as well as $30 in other tools. Nothing sharp, I swear!!! Oh, no! I'm flying faster than the satellites!!! Got some work to do... add Touratech centerstand, GPS... Ready to get started...now which way do I go...? In my haste, I forgot to photo-document the start mileage. It was 7455. Just starting this trip... I forgot to remove my "cheaters"... the coins we used to stretch the springs to install the centerstand rode 500 miles before I noticed. What's this, about halfway to Athens GA? Waffle House coffee is my friend. Probably spent a third of my travel costs with them. Part of the Iron Butt documentation for the SaddleSore 1000. Total distance Dallas to Athens was 1065 miles. The last fuel stop - Athens, Georgia. About 3:30 am. 21-hour trip. Too many stops. But, Officer Wheeles, this bike can't go that fast! (His real name...no kidding!) One of my first off-road trips with friend Bo at Cheaha State Park.
Cheaha Road 600 - it's an unimproved forest road.
